The Friends of the Library were managing a used book sale in the basement of the library as well as raising funds for the library. Due to circumstances, the Friends disbanded as of March 31, 2008.  People who wish to support the library may make donations directly to the Salt Spring Island Public Library or apply to volunteer to work in the library.

The Friends were instrumental in hosting a gala Library Celebration in the fall of 2006, helping the library meet its fundraising goal of $250,000 to assist with the purchase of a building site for the new library.
