StoryTime@theLibrary
For the months of May and June, Salt Spring Island Public Library invites all children and parents to join us for StoryTime, a program packed with sweet stories, rhyming rhythms, creative crafts, and games galore.
Reading stories aloud is an important activity for many reasons. Oral storytelling connects us to an older time, when bards roamed the land with lutes on their shoulders and sagas in their heads, and histories and traditions were passed along by word of mouth. For auditory learners, reading aloud is especially valuable, and the experience of listening to a story as a group can provide children with an excellent social, as well as literary experience.
With an emphasis on rhyming and rhythm, StoryTime promises to be a lively event for all children, down to the very young. Rhyme , rhythm, and repetition are great tools for new readers to learn about word- and sentence-structure, and to enjoy the experience of developing their skills.
From May 4th until June 15th, StoryTime will be held every Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the Library Annex, 108 Jackson Road. Some of the favorites you might expect to hear include Farmer Duck, Each Peach Pear Plum, and a grand assortment of Mo Willem adventures. StoryTime programs will also include songs, games, and crafts. When the colored flags fly, you know it’s StoryTime at the library!
